A Love of Egyptian Dance
My name is Jane Wass, over twenty years ago I fell in love with Egyptian dance, the way it made me feel and the cultures it connected me to. I started Mazazik in 2002 in Manchester and have taught in the UK, Europe, Thailand and my second home, Egypt.
Everyone knows that dance is good for you, but not everyone wants to dance Strictly-style. If you hear the words Egyptian dance, many people think of sparkly bras or restaurant dancers. But there’s much more to it.
If you are looking to dance for health, creativity, to explore the world in a different way, or simply to have fun, Mazazik Dance might be for you.
And one of the great things about this dance is it can be as gentle or tough as you want it to be. Try it and you find yourself more flexible and stronger, calmer and relaxed, clearer mind through a sometimes-meditative approach and just happier.
Mazazik is much more than a dance class. You’ll slowly learn to create your own dance (it’s not as hard as you think) as well as exploring the countries we visit in dance. You can join our Culture Club and maybe come to the theatre or eat out with us. Maybe even come on a holiday – or just come to classes whatever works for you. Many events are women only but not all. There is something for anyone who wants to explore this dance style
I offer regular classes on online and lead classes and workshops across the North of England …. which brings me to the wonderful city of Hull. I am excited to start termly workshops in Hull this spring (April 2024).
To celebrate the start of these workshops in Hull, come try it at our Back to Basics weekend at Hull Dance on Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 April
Feral Arts School/Hull Dance, Alfred Gelder Street
In our theme THIS IS THE SEA, you will discover moods and dynamics of modern bellydance, and we will work on the technique of bodywaves and armwork. Sounds a bit daunting? Don’t worry back to basics will be just that, a chance to slowly find out more about this dance style.
After our Saturday morning dance (11.30 am to 1.30 pm) you are very welcome to join the Saturday matinee Mazazik Culture Club outing to see Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands at Hull New Theatre, or just do your own thing.
For more info and to book email mazazik_uk@hotmail.com.
Dance Workshops (Saturday and Sunday) £30, payable before 1 April.
